Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Hanford CA
359 AM PDT Fri Apr 4 2025
.UPDATE...
Update to the aviation discussion.
&&
.KEY MESSAGES...
1. There is a chance of mountain showers and isolated mountain
thunderstorms through this evening.
2. Dry weather will prevail and a warming trend will take place
Friday through the weekend.
3. Temperatures will lower a bit on Monday then rise to well
above normal by the middle of next week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
A cool northerly flow behind a strong upper trough over the
Great Basin is maintaining cool and unsettled weather across our
area today with below normal temperatures and some upslope
clouds over the south end of the San Joaquin Valley and the
valley facing slopes of the Tehachapi mountains. While the low
clouds have been mixing out, increased instability over the
mountains and foothills this afternoon and evening will result
in a chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms over
the higher elevations. As the trough continues to drop
southeast and away from our area, skies will clear out
overnight.
SREF is showing an upper ridge amplifying near 130W on Friday
which will then shift inland in CA this weekend resulting a
rising heights and thicknesses across our area which will bring
a noticable warming trend to our area with daytime temperatures
rising to near seasonal normals on Friday and to above normal
levels by Saturday with continued warming anticipated for
Sunday under mainly clear skies. Ensemble means are showing a
trough moving across the PAC NW on Monday which will bring
slightly cooler temperatures to our area on Monday before the
ridge rebuilds during the mid-week period resulting in much
above normal temperatures across our area on Wednesday and
Thursday along with continued dry weather.
